1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP)

1-Methylcyclopropene(1-MCP) is the latest ethylene inhibitor, which can keep the endogenous and exogenous ethylene effect of plants, can effectively delay the maturity of plants, and has a significant preservation effect.

1-MCP can well delay maturity and senescence, maintain product hardness, crispness, color, flavor, fragrance and nutrients, effectively maintain plant disease resistance, reduce rot caused by microorganisms and reduce Physiological diseases, and can reduce water evaporation, and prevent wilting. Compared with traditional ethylene inhibitors, it is non-toxic, harmless, and highly effective.

Dora Agri is the supplier of fruit-keeping agent 1-Methylcyclopropene. Our vision is to help our customers reduce the loss of fruits or flowers during the transportation process. Everything is centered on the interests of customers. For more details please contact enquiry@doraagri.com.

Mechanism of Action

When plant organs enter the mature stage, ethylene, which is a mature hormone, will be produced and combined with the ethylene receptor protein inside the cell to accelerate the senescence and death of crops. 1-Methylcyclopropene, which has a molecular structure similar to ethylene, can also bind to these ethylene receptor proteins, preventing the receptor from binding to ethylene, which also hinders the physiological and biochemical reactions that cause maturity, and effectively inhibits or delays the occurrence of physiological aging reactions in plants.

Therefore, before the release of endogenous ethylene in plants, applying 1-mcp will preemptively bind to the receptor, reducing the negative effects of ethylene and their receptor binding, delaying the maturation process, and achieving the effect of preservation.

Application of 1-MCP

For Vegetables:
Prevent the leaves of green leafy vegetables from turning yellow and wilting, reduce the intensity of respiration, obviously slow down the decline of vegetable nutrients, maintain or improve the taste of vegetables; reduce the harsh requirements for low temperature in vegetable transportation, and extend the shelf life of vegetables.

For Fruit:
The main problems during fruit transportation are fruit softening, discoloration, spotting, and browning.
For fruits such as kiwi, persimmon, and peach, the biggest problem after harvest is that the fruit softens quickly. For example, the softening time of persimmon can be extended from the fifth to the 15th to 20th day after 1-MCP treatment. The 1-mcp treatment obviously delayed the decrease of fruit firmness.

For Cutting Flowers:

Most flowers are sensitive to ethylene. 1-Methylcyclopropene can inhibit ethylene-related wilting before cut flowers mature, reduce flower browning and leaf yellowing, and prevent flower and leaf fall. 1-mcp treatment usually inhibits the aging effect of ethylene on fresh flowers, especially in the environment of fresh flowers transportation, slowing down the aging response of cut flowers, reducing the breathing intensity of fresh flowers during transportation, and prolonging their lifespan.
A number of experiments have shown that after carnations are treated with 1-mcp, the flowering period is prolonged by more than 2 times, and the effect is particularly obvious.

As a post-harvest processing method of agricultural products, the shelf life of farm products treated with 1-mcp is generally significantly extended. It can reduce the respiratory intensity of farm products, so that farm products can extend their storage life even in a low temperature environment slightly higher than the optimum storage temperature. Not only can the loss be reduced, but also the quality can be improved. Especially suitable for agricultural products that need to be refrigerated or transported over long distances. Moreover, 1-mcp is non-toxic and harmless, more in line with modern agricultural standards.

How to Use 1-Methylcyclopropene

The preservative is a solid powder, and the effective ingredient is 1-Methylcyclopropene gas. Measure the volume of the treatment site first, calculate the amount of preservative based on the ambient temperature, humidity, and volume, and store the fruits, vegetables, and flowers that need preservative treatment directly in the refrigerator or carton (put the preservative before the carton is sealed), and it will be ready Place the glass cup in the center of the warehouse, put 1-Methylcyclopropene preservative, fill the cup with 20-40 times the preservative amount of water, and then quickly close the refrigerator.

When the ambient temperature is> 20°C, the fumigation time is 6-12 hours, when the ambient temperature is <20°C, the fumigation time is 24 hours, and the warehouse or box can be opened after the fumigation is completed.
