Category: Cytokinin

Cytokinins are a class of plant hormones that promote cell division in plant roots and shoots. They mainly affect apical dominance, axillary bud growth, and leaf vigor.

Cytokinins are synthesized in the roots, they will move upward and enter the leaves and fruits of the plants, to maintain normal growth and cell differentiation of them.

Cytokinin hormones, such as kinetin, is used commercially to reduce yellowing in vegetables and maintain long-term storage. In-plant tissue culture, high auxin, and low cytokinin conditions will promote root development, while low auxin and high cytokinin conditions will promote bud formation.
