Summer Crop Cultivation and Management

In summer, crops experience their most vigorous growth phase. During this period of intense physiological growth, the demand and utilization rate for nitrogen fertilizers are high. However, this often leads to an over – supply of nitrogen in crops.

To address this, when applying fertilizers in summer, it’s crucial to adjust the ratio of nitrogen fertilizers according to the growth stage of the crops. As the crops mature, the proportion of nitrogen fertilizers should be decreased, while the application rate of potassium fertilizers should be increased. The ideal nitrogen – potassium ratio should range from 1:1 to 2:3.

Increasing the use of potassium fertilizers can effectively mitigate the excessive vegetative growth caused by over – application of nitrogen. It also enhances the crops’ stress – resistance capabilities and alleviates the mid – day “sleepiness” resulting from the intense transpiration under high – temperature conditions at noon.

Properly combining nitrogen and potassium can significantly improve the quality of agricultural products.
